We've trained ourselves (or have been conditioned) to be ready for every unexpected moment. With confidence, intellect, mindfulness, positivity, and grace.
But what happens when the truly unpredictable second arrives, and we can't summon any of those superpowers?
A moment of confrontation, an important question, or a high-stakes decision arises, and it can feel like a lot all at once.
Try this grounding exercise:
Pause before responding.There's no rush.
Step away briefly if you can.A short walk or a quiet moment alone is often enough.
Let your thoughts drift, even briefly, to something unrelated.
Breathe, slowly and deliberately.
Then, when you're ready, proceed.
Fewer words tend to mean less complication, and a little more peace.
